Blackberry Enterprise Server,
iPrism, and Barracuda Project
Backgrounder
After we completed an IT
Assessment for a large manufacturing
company we had the opportunity to
deploy a Blackberry Enterprise
Server for Microsoft Exchange 2003,
a content filtering solution, and a
spam filtering solution for the
Exchange Server.
We reviewed the hardware
requirements for the Blackberry
Enterprise Server Software. Then
selected Dell Server hardware.
We loaded the Blackberry Server
Software and configured the users.
It was up and running in no time.
The requirements for
content filtering were straight
forward. We wanted a AD
integrated device providing a
single sign on. We wanted to
create AD groups the Network
Administrator could assign to users
to allow or deny access. We need to
create a variety of web access
filters. We needed to restrict
access to offensive sites. We needed
to limit access to the internet for
shop floor employees. We
selected the iPrism device. It
meet all these requirements and
more.
The requirements for Spam
Filtering was even simpler. Stop
spam messages but allow valid
messages. We needed to select
a device that supported white lists.
The white list allows us to make
sure email was delivered for their
customers. We wanted the device to
log messages. The message logs
allows us to see blocked messages.
Then review the logs and possibly
deliver the message. We needed the
device online at all times. We
selected the Barracuda Spam
Filtering Device.
